Publications
22 publications since 2020, sitting between GIScience, computer science and the social sciences: platial analysis and leisure walking systems, points of interest datasets at national scale, walkability surfaces, spatial formats for language models, and applied collaboration in health geography.
- 22PublicationsPapers, datasets, preprints and theses, 2020 to 2026, each with abstract, PDF and citation data.
- 12Peer reviewedConference proceedings and journal articles across GIScience, HCI and urban analytics.
- 6Published datasetsConflated points of interest covering six countries, versioned and openly released.
- 16Distinct venuesIncluding LBS, GISRUK, SDSS, PLATIAL, OSMScience and IEEE conference proceedings.
The through line is platial: a place is not the same thing as a coordinate, and the difference is computable. The early work asked what makes a walk worth taking, and answered with linked video narratives and contextual GIS rather than distance and gradient. The later work asks the same question at scale, clustering points of interest into functional urban regions, publishing conflated POI datasets across six countries, building walkability surfaces on H3, and proposing formats that let a language model reason about somewhere rather than something. Running alongside is applied collaboration in health geography, where the spatial question becomes who is exposed and who gets missed. The methods change and the scale keeps growing. The concern does not.
